Honoring Live and Love

Pupuji-chan

2008-2022

It is with a sad and heavy heart that I share the news that my sassy Lady Prince of a dog, Pupuji, who has accompanied me through every AO Yoga video and class thus far, passed peacefully in my arms on Thursday morning, Feb 3rd, 2022. It was unexpected, but we did everything we could have done, and it was clear she was ready to go.

With the recent deaths of Thich Nhat Hahn, bell hooks, Desmond Tutu, and so many of our loved ones these past few years, I am reminded how precious this life is, and how grateful I am to be living it.

In honor of the living and the dead, I’m offering a Meditation and Yoga class this Wednesday evening (tonight). Scroll to the end for more info.

I am wishing everyone good health, a Happy Lunar New Year, and ease for what life holds for you.

Thursday evening, Feb. 10, 2022

Led Meditation, 7:30-8pm: I will read from “Tibetan Book of the Living and Dying” and lead us through a meditation, meant to help transform the pain and suffering that comes with death, or after death. It is secular and can be done by anyone of any religion, or anyone willing to slow down and breathe with intention and visualizations. It can be done for yourself or anyone you love.

8:30pm onward, Life Reflection for anyone wanting to say hello, share a story, or honor her in community.

Donations are welcomed, but not required, and will go to pay her medical costs. @AO_Yoga on Venmo.

New Year. New Class.

Home Body

Do you struggle to create a regular home practice?

Whether it happens in the shower, while brushing your teeth, or cleaning the house, an accessible and conscious practice is key to sustaining a home practice over time.

This yoga course will happen ‘on the mat,’ but will help each participant create a home practice that is sustainable and approachable. Join for as many classes as you can, or just one, to gain some tools on how to develop a practical and individualized routine. (And it is not necessary to have a mat, though it is helpful).

Wednesdays 8-8:45pm EST

$10-20 sliding scale

$150 for all 6 classes + access to the recordings

15 days / 15 mins: Meditation + Movement for the Lunar New Year

Friday February 12th - Friday February 26th

9:00-9:15am ET

Are you interested in committing to a more mindful lifestyle, but having trouble connecting to a regular practice and with others?

The energy of Sangha, or community, whether we are speaking or sitting silently together, is essential to feeling connected to a larger movement. I have long felt that my spiritual and activism practices were deeply connected, but have found it difficult to find spaces where others were equally committed to both. This 15-day commitment will give us an opportunity to practice together to build self and community care.

Each day will include a daily anti-racism quote for reflection, a guided meditation, and a movement/yoga/somatics practice to get you ready to start your day with more clarity, centeredness, and connection. Participation in all the sessions is strongly encouraged but drop-ins welcome. Come as you are, when you can.

After the 15 days end, we’ll discuss how we want to move forward and continue to practice/engage together.

There is no meditation or yoga experience required. If you have a sitting practice you are welcome to bring your own tradition.
